2 HIV-Tests for pregnant women in Tanzania

Protect babies. Almost every second child from a HIV-positive mother becomes infected during pregnancy, birth or by breast feeding. A HIV infected baby needs lifelong medication. Without medication the baby will die of AIDS in the first two years of its life. Effective medication reduces the risk of the baby becoming infected to less than 2 percent.  In Lugala-hospital in Tanzania pregnant women are tested for HIV and treated with medication in order to protect the baby. This is a SolidarMed project.
